Sight loss in AMD
Sight loss in AMD

1 in 12 people over 75 are likely to develop age-related macular degeneration. A gift from you this Christmas could help save sight.

Age related macular degeneration (AMD) is the leading cause of blindness in people over 60 in the western world. The impact of AMD can be devastating. It affects central vision making it difficult, and sometimes impossible, to recognise faces and carry out everyday tasks such as reading and driving. This can lead to a loss of independence and have profound consequences for quality of life. This is why research funded by Fight for Sight into AMD is so important. Just as cataracts can be treated we hope that we will soon have ways of preventing and treating AMD.

Exciting news from a project co-funded by Fight for Sight

Our most exciting news is that Professor David Bates and his team at the University of Bristol are developing a new treatment for AMD. Thanks to our supporters Professor Bates should be able to start clinical trials for this important treatment next year. But there is still so much more to be done and without extra funding we are limited to the progress we can make.

Please help us do more to prevent and treat AMD

A gift from you today will help research continue into promising new ways of preventing and treating debilitating eye diseases like AMD.

There are different ways to make your donation, including an online payment option:
