Warwickshire Fight for Sight Committee
The Warwickshire Fight for Sight Committee was set up in 1994 by Clive Stone and Debbie White. This is their story.
The Warwickshire Fight for Sight Committee was set up in 1994 by Clive Stone - previous Fight for Sight chairman and trustee - and Debbie White (pictured), after they met on a golfing holiday.
Debbie has the rare genetic condition, Usher syndrome II, causing hearing impairment and progressive vision loss due to retinitis pigmentosa (RP). Retinitis pigmentosa occurs as a result of a depletion in cells that detect light, which ultimately leads to sight loss.
Debbie is the Warwickshire Fight for Sight Committee Vice President and in 2013, Francesca Marchetti joined the Committee as Optical Lead. Francesca became involved with Fight For Sight after her mother become partially sighted from having the condition age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
Though Debbie realises that there may not be a breakthrough in her lifetime to reverse her sight loss, she has been tirelessly fundraising for over 25 years and to date, she and the Committee have managed to raise £350,000 for Fight for Sight's pioneering eye research.
The Warwickshire Fight for Sight Committee hosts annual Warwickshire golf days, which every year are managed by Debbie. Other fundraising activities to date have included sky dives, cycling challenges, gala dinners and night walks - to name but a few.
Annual Warwickshire Golf Day
Every summer, the Warwickshire Fight for Sight Committee hosts the annual Warwickshire Golf Day in Stoneleigh Deer Park Golf Club, Warwickshire. This year, the Committee will work hard to beat their best fundraising total of £20,000. For the next golf day, they are on the hunt for golfers and sponsors to help fund vital research. The golf day attracts over 30 corporate and private teams who enjoy 18 holes of golf, followed by a three-course meal. After the auction takes place, the Committee presents all the prizes and the finale is the Star Prize Draw which usually raises over £1,200.
