Fighting for Sight at 10,000 feet
Fight for Sight, the UK’s leading eye research charity, is taking over the Hinton Airfield in Northamptonshire on Saturday 5 May. The charity has recruited a team of fantastic flying fundraisers, including two of their trustees, their Director of Development and long-time Fight for Sight supporter Debbie White, who lives with a sight loss condition called retinitis pigmentosa.
It’s not every Director of a charity or trustee who’s committed enough to throw themselves out of a plane for the cause. Louisa Vincent, Managing Director at Lazard Asset Management, and a trustee of the charity for three years, said: “I’ve always wanted to do a tandem sky dive – the view must be amazing but far too many people would not be able to see it because they live with a sight loss condition. I’m delighted to have this opportunity to help raise money for important, sight saving research.”
Debbie White, from Warwick, is also leading the way with her second sky dive for Fight for Sight. She did her first #skydiveforsight three years ago with 27 friends, raising over £7,000. This year Debbie and the gang are aiming even higher, so to speak, and want to raise £10,000 for the charity. Debbie said: “The condition I live with, retinitis pigmentosa (RP), causes tunnel visions and night blindness. There are many eye conditions, including RP, for which we need to fund research. I have been fundraising for Fight for Sight for over 20 years now and decided that this year it was time to get another willing group of friends to throw themselves out of a plane to support me and a great cause.”
