Help us continue the fight for sight this Christmas
Developments in eye research mean that for many people treatments do exist for conditions like cataract. Unfortunately, for millions of people in the UK and worldwide no treatments are available and they have to live with the effects of blindness and sight loss. This is why Fight for Sight is committed to funding eye research in a number of areas. Your Christmas gift can help us continue this work.

Sight loss shouldn't be an inevitable part of growing older
“My eyesight is deteriorating but I don’t have an eye disease, it’s just part of getting older” This is something we at Fight for Sight often hear. Losing one’s sight tends to be considered as just one of those things, an inevitable part of growing old. We don’t think it should be.

A gift from you could help eliminate the need for cataract surgery
Almost 18 million people are blind in both eyes as a result of cataract. It is the single largest cause of blindness in the world. Cataract is so common the chances are you’ve had a cataract yourself or know someone who has. The effects are debilitating – everything looking blurred, being dazzled by light, colours looking washed out or faded. A gift today could help advance research into ways to prevent cataract from occurring, therefore eliminating the need for surgery.

A gift from you this Christmas could help save sight
Age related macular degeneration (AMD) is the leading cause of blindness in people over 60 in the western world. The impact of AMD can be devastating. It affects central vision making it difficult, and sometimes impossible, to recognise faces and carry out everyday tasks such as reading and driving. This can lead to a loss of independence and have profound consequences for quality of life.

Helping people affected by eye cancer
Currently, half of the people diagnosed with eye cancer are likely to die because they have an aggressive form of the cancer that has spread to their liver. Fight for Sight is funding pioneering research that will help doctors to detect an aggressive cancer early on. Much more work is needed to develop these techniques, however, which is why we are asking for your help.

Help us to better understand inherited retinal diseases and improve our chances of finding treatments
At the moment, little can be done to save the sight of people affected by these diseases. This is why your support of research into this area is vital.
