Coast to Coast challenge for choroideremia research
12 July 2010
In June 2010, Polly Johnson completed an 85-mile walk through three National Parks raising over £840 for Fight for Sight.
The Coast to Coast challenge takes walkers through the Lake District, across the Pennines and over the North Yorkshire Moors. Polly chose to take part in the challenge to raise money for choroideremia research - a rare eye condition that affected her father.
Fight for Sight, the UK's leading eye research charity, is currently funding research at Imperial College London looking into new treatments for choroideremia. The charity's research programme is also funding research into the prevention and treatment of age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma, cataract, diabetic retinopathy and the causes of childhood blindness.
Fight for Sight's Director of Fundraising, Annu Mayor, was delighted Polly chose to fundraise for Fight for Sight: "The support of people like Polly is so important to Fight for Sight. Without it we wouldn't be able to fund this vital research into ways of preventing sight loss in the future."
