Fight for Sight celebrates World Sight Day
12 October 2009
Fight for Sight teamed up with the University of East Anglia to celebrate World Sight Day on 8 October 2009, and to raise awareness of eye health and eye research. Representatives from UEA and Fight for Sight staff and volunteers organised an information stand at Norwich department store Jarrolds and hosted an evening reception to help raise awareness of eye conditions such as cataract, glaucoma, macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy.
During the evening Fight for Sight’s Chief Executive, Michele Acton, gave an overview of recent developments in eye research. Dr Michael Wormstone spoke about his ongoing research into the prevention of cataract and after-cataract. The presentations were followed by a drinks reception where attendees had the opportunity to meet and talk to leading eye researchers, consultants and surgeons.
Michele Acton was delighted with the event, she said: “Looking after your eyes is incredibly important. We are determined to raise the profile of eye disease and the important eye research that needs to be funded.”
