MP presents Fight for Sight Raffle prize
27 November 2009
Fight for Sight raffle winner, Mrs Everitt, was presented with her £2,500 prize by local MP Mr Tony Baldry and Fight for Sight Chairman Mr Christopher Moore. Mrs Everitt of Bicester, Oxfordshire is the winner of Fight for Sight’s first ever raffle.
Mrs Everitt was delighted to win and pleased her contribution to the raffle will help Fight for Sight continue its vital work: "Having had two cataracts I realise what life would be like if I lost my sight and am so pleased to support Fight for Sight who are working hard to help prevent blindness in people of all ages."
Fight for Sight is the UK’s leading charity dedicated to funding world-class research into the prevention and treatment of blindness and eye disease. Funds raised from the raffle will go directly to supporting the charity's research programme. Two other lucky winners took second and third prizes of £750 and £500, and 20 runners up each received shopping vouchers.
Christopher Moore, Fight for Sight Chairman said: “This is the first time we have organised a raffle and we have been overwhelmed by the response. Not only has it raised vital funds for research into blindness and eye disease, it has raised awareness of the charity’s work throughout the country. We were very grateful for support from Mr Baldry in making this presentation.”
Mr Baldry MP said: “I was so pleased to learn that a Bicester resident won the first prize of £2,500 and it was a pleasure to present this to Mrs Everitt on behalf of Fight for Sight who are doing excellent work to improve the lives of thousands of people with blindness and eye disease”.

Note for Editors:
Fight for Sight is the UK’s leading charity dedicated to funding world-class research into the prevention and treatment of blindness and eye disease.
Since 1965, the charity has funded millions of pounds worth of research at leading universities and hospitals throughout the UK. Our major achievements in this time include:
• saving the sight of thousands of premature babies through understanding and controlling levels of oxygen delivery;
• restoring sight by establishing the UK Corneal Transplant Service enabling over 45,000 corneal transplants to take place;
• revolutionising the treatment for children with amblyopia (lazy eye);
• bringing hope to children with inherited eye disease by helping fund the team responsible for the world’s first gene therapy clinical trial; and
• providing £1million for the research unit at the dedicated children’s eye centre at Moorfields Eye Hospital.
Fight for Sight’s current research programme of over £5 million focuses on preventing and treating age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma and cataract as well as causes of childhood blindness.
