‘Bill’ actress wins for Fight for Sight
28 September 2009
Lucy Speed, actress in The Bill, together with her family were the clear winners in ITV’s All Star Family Fortunes on Sunday when Fight for Sight was one of two charities nominated by Lucy to receive their prize money. Thanks to their winning efforts, the charity will receive £5,000 that will be devoted to further vital research into choroideremia, a rare eye condition for which Fight for Sight is currently funding work at Imperial College London.
Lucy chose Fight for Sight because she is aware, through a family friend, of what it means to be affected by choroideremia.
Annu Mayor, Fight for Sight’s Director of Fundraising said: “We are really grateful to Lucy Speed for nominating Fight for Sight and delighted that she and her family won the show. The research that we are funding into choroideremia has shown promising early results and this further funding will help us to continue this important work.”
“The fact that Fight for Sight was mentioned on a show that is watched in about 5.4 million homes is so important to us as we seek to raise the charity’s profile and bring to the attention of the public the importance of high quality research into blindness and eye disease.”
