Give the gift of sight this Christmas

Back life-changing science

Breakthrough science is what we are about at Fight for Sight. We support promising projects at the start of the research cycle so that life-changing, innovative treatments can be developed further down the line.

If we were not funding the early stages of discovery, which we are only able to do thanks to you, none of the later incredible advances would happen.

That is why in the run up to Christmas we want to celebrate one of our scientists who is on the brink of a major breakthrough in eye health.

Professor Heping Xu and his PhD student, Manon Szczepan

Professor Heping Xu has dedicated the last 10 years to a ground breaking study on age-related macular degeneration, the most common cause of severe sight loss in the UK. His extraordinary success is thanks to people like you.

Professor Xu's crucial findings are now progressing to clinical trials. From there is it a hugely important step to cutting-edge new treatments and better outcomes for people with the condition.

It is the pinnacle every researcher strives for, and incredibly rewarding for us, to see the work we all believed in reach this point.

Help us get to the next breakthrough

£50 could contribute to the costs of OCT scans, which researchers use to spot age-related macular degeneration at an early stage.

£75 could enable the training of young researchers and scientific technicians.

£100 could fund training in microscopy and culture techniques, helping to advance understanding of disease development.

£250 could help fund consumables for early career investigators, establishing new research methods to uncover progression in age-related macular degeneration.

These are examples of the vital work you might help fund. Your donation will be put to work straight away where it can make the most difference. Please note that the research project is an example of the work we do in fighting sight loss.
