Minnie's Miracle Fund

Minnie’s parents Caroline and Mark Fogg set up Minnie’s Miracle fund. This is their story.

Minnie was diagnosed with Leber’s Congenital Amourosis (LCA) in October 2018, at just 3 months’ old. Leber’s Congenital Amaurosis is an inherited eye condition affecting the photographic plate at the back of the eye, meaning that images don’t get sent to the brain properly.  Typically, symptoms start in early childhood and progress over time. Minnie was registered as blind at the end of December 2018.

As a New Year’s resolution for 2019, parents Caroline and Mark decided to raise as much money as possible to fund research into Leber’s Congenital Amaurosis – and they’re now rallying friends and family to get involved. They’ve been fundraising so far by taking part in things like the Great Manchester 10K Run 2019, with more fundraising events in the pipeline.

Minnie’s mother, Caroline, said: “Receiving Minnie's diagnosis was devastating. It felt really huge and life-changing; we felt so sad. Working with Fight for Sight has given us real hope. It’s given us the opportunity to raise money and awareness to help Minnie and all sufferers of Leber’s Congenital Amaurosis – and we’re actually doing it.  Family funds are amazing things when it comes to pushing forward science and innovation to cure these awful conditions. We hope to raise as much money as we can and would love to achieve £10k in the first year!”

  • Setting up a Fight for Sight Family Fund

Fight for Sight funds pioneering eye research to help create future everyone can see. Our research programmes are currently developing ways we can better diagnose, prevent and treat eye conditions such as glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease and childhood blindness. Even rare inherited diseases. We believe all sight loss is not inevitable. It is only through medical research we will make sight loss a thing of the past.

Setting up a Family Fund, like Minnie's Miracle Fund, is a great way to fundraise as a family or group for eye research.
