New funds for Scottish research on age-related eye conditions
Fight for Sight teams up with the Scottish government’s Chief Science Office
Biomedical researchers in Scotland can now apply for a grant of up to £200,000 to study age-related eye conditions. We have teamed up with the Chief Science Office (CSO) to create the new funding scheme.
The Chief Scientist Office is one of the Scottish Government Health and Social Care Directorates. It supports and promotes high-quality research with the aim of bringing long-term health benefits to of the people of Scotland.
Patient benefit
Researchers are being invited to apply to work on conditions such as glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration and cataract. The projects must also demonstrate a clear pathway to clinical benefit for patients.
Dr Dolores Conroy is Director of Research at Fight for Sight. She said “We're confident that Scottish-led research funded through this partnership with the Chief Scientist Office will contribute to a better understanding of age-related eye diseases that will lead to new treatments for patients.”
Dr Alan McNair, Senior Research Manager at the Scottish Government Chief Scientist Office said “CSO is delighted to partner with Fight for Sight in this exciting research funding initiative. Age-related eye diseases can severely impact patients and those close to them. Research is essential if we are to develop effective new treatments for these conditions.”
