Today (16 August), Fight for Sight is launching its second grants round of 2017/18. As the leading eye research charity, we are determined to fully maximise the impact of the research we fund. We know our supporters expect this of us and we know that millions of people worldwide can benefit from the pioneering research that we fund.

This year we are particularly pleased to include in our grants round a new type of award scheme. Our Primer Fellowships have been developed to attract the brightest minds amongst eye health professionals to ophthalmic and vision research. Primer Fellowships aim to provide funding of up to £60,000 for one year for people to gain research experience. This will better equip those who wish to embark on research fellowships in the future, leading to better and more impactful research.

We are delighted therefore to have partnered with other leading organisations who share our mission. We have partnered with the Royal College of Ophthalmologists to provide up to two fellowships for their members and with the Royal Society of Medicine for one fellowship for eye health professionals including ophthalmologists, ophthalmic nurses, optometrists and orthoptists.

Alongside these awards, we are also launching our call for Project Grants, which provide up to £170,000 over three years and one joint Project Grant with the Chief Scientist Office, Scotland, providing up to £200,000 over three years for Scottish based clinical and non-clinical research scientists wishing to undertake research in age-related eye diseases.
