This is a great opportunity to recognise Andy’s ground-breaking work at NuVision, the UK’s first ophthalmic biotech commercialising high quality and affordable biotherapies for treating ‘front of the eye’ disease and trauma. His team worked on a revolutionary new treatment to get wounds to heal before people need surgery. They created a sterile biological wound dressing called Omnigen® that can be placed directly onto the eye quickly and easily within the critical 72 hour window. Fight for Sight then funded a new study to adapt Omingen® to let stem cells (called corneal stromal cells) use it as a scaffold to grow on. Corneal stromal cells can ‘talk’ to cells in the patient’s damaged eye tissue to bring inflammation down and encourage the tissue to mend.
