Sibling Duo Tackle Mile of Mud for Eye Research
A sibling duo tackled a mile of mud to raise £2,500 on behalf of Fight for Sight, the UK’s main eye research charity.
Hesper Holden, 7, and her brother Henry, 10, took on the Mini Mudder back in September. The Mini Mudder is a shorter, smaller version of Tough Mudder, a popular obstacle race. Complete with several obstacles like monkey bars and a laser maze made of string. The mile long course is targeted towards children who aren’t afraid of getting dirty.
Hesper showed signs of sight loss at just 2 years old. Her eyes had not developed properly, resulting in long-sightedness. Despite numerous tests, the cause of her visual impairment is still unknown.
Gayla Holden, their mother, explained how Hesper’s condition inspires them: “As the mother of a child who is suffering from a visual impairment for unknown reasons the value of research to us cannot be over-estimated. Knowledge is power and that is why we feel as a family it is important to support the research efforts of Fight for Sight.”
The Holden’s chose to sponsor Fight for Sight when they took on this challenge and exceeded their fundraising expectations. Through their Just Giving page, they raised over £2,500 from 90 supporters, shattering their goal of £500.
