Going the extra mile for eye research

On Bank Holiday Monday, 25 May, Jonathan Chew, 29, from Hornchurch, Essex, will join a dedicated team of Fight for Sight runners, to complete his first Bupa 10k race.

Thousands will take part in the annual event and Jonathan will be going the distance to support the UK’s leading charity that funds pioneering eye research to prevent sight loss and treat eye disease.

Jonathan, an Event Manager for Media 10, was responsible for organising the UK’s largest optical event, 100% Optical. Fight for Sight was named the official charity partner for the event in February, this year, and will be for the 2016 and 2017 shows. Having seen what a difference supporters can make by fundraising for the worthy cause, Jonathan pledged to take part in the challenge and support Fight for Sight’s mission and hopes to raise £2,000.

The run starts at 10am from St James Park and runners will take in the famous sights of London including; Nelson’s Column, St Paul’s Cathedral, Bank of England, London Eye, the Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey. Fight for Sight will be there to cheer all our runners on every step of the way.

Jonathan said: “I’m excited to be taking part in my first ever official race and running for Fight for Sight. I’m going to give the challenge 100 per cent. Sight loss can have a devastating effect on someone’s life and the charity is aiming to put a stop to this. It’s been fantastic working with Fight for Sight and I’m looking forward to working with the charity on the up and coming 100% Optical shows.”

Catherine Woodhead, Director of Fundraising for Fight for Sight said: “It’s been fantastic working with Jonathan and the rest of the team at 100% Optical. We are really grateful to Jonathan for going the extra mile and helping to support Fight for Sight outside of working hours. Thank you to Jonathan and all our other runners, their generosity really does help to make a difference.”
