Polegate teenager raises over £1,000 in Charity Abseil

Nathan Dunbar, 14, from Polegate has raised over £1,000 for Fight for Sight by abseiling from the UK’s tallest sculpture. On Saturday 5th August Nathan made a dramatic 80-metre descent from the Arcelormittal Orbit, the 114-metre tall tower, which is located in the heart of the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford.

Nathan suffers from Keratoconus, an eye condition that affects the normally round dome-shaped window of the eye. The cornea progressively thins causing a cone-shaped bulge to develop. The change in shape and thinning of the cornea and, in later stages scarring causing loss of transparency of the cornea and impairs the ability of the eye to focus properly, causing poor vision.

Nathan said “After being diagnosed with Keratoconus a couple of years ago and receiving surgery on both eyes I wanted to do something to raise awareness about my eye condition but also raise funds to aid with further research”. Nathan added, “I am extremely grateful to everyone who has donated money.” Nathan has currently raised £1,100 for Fight for Sight.
