Fight for Sight's funds are allocated to research teams attached to UK academic or medical institutions. The research may be undertaken in the UK or overseas.

Fight for Sight Award

  • Open to ophthalmologists and scientists working in the field of ophthalmology throughout the UK.
  • Up to £5000.
  • The call for this award is now closed. The closing date for applications was Wednesday 1 February 2017.

  • Open to trainee ophthalmologists for clinical research in the field of ophthalmology and vision science. The awards are tenable for two years.
  • Up to £5,000.
  • The call for Ophthalmology Trainee Research Network Awards is now open. The closing date for submissions is 5pm on Friday 17 March 2017.

Small Grant Awards Schemes

  • Limited to clinical research studies in the field of ophthalmology and vision science. The awards are tenable for one year.
  • Up to £15,000.

New Lecturer Small Grant Awards

  • Open to newly appointed clinical and non-clinical lecturers researching in the field of ophthalmology and vision science. The awards are tenable for one year.
  • Up to £20,000.
  • The call for New Lecturer Small Grant Awards is now closed. The closing date for submissions was 5pm on Wednesday 24 August 2016.

  • Open to PhD supervisors for three year PhD Studentships to start in October 2017.
  • Up to £100,000.
  • The call for the PhD Studentships is only open to shortlisted applicants. Successful applicants will be notified by the end of January 2017.

Project Grants

  • Open to clinical and non-clinical research scientists wishing to undertake research in all fields of ophthalmic and vision research relevant to Fight for Sight's charitable aims. In this grants round Fight for Sight is particularly (but not exclusively) keen to receive applications for research into Stargardt disease.
  • Up to £170,000 for three years, or pro rata for projects of a shorter duration.
  • The call for the Project Grants is now only open to shortlisted applicants. The closing date for full application submission will be 5pm on Monday 6 February 2017.

Fight for Sight / CSO Project Grant

  • Open to Scotland based clinical and non-clinical research scientists wishing to undertake research in age-related eye diseases relevant to Fight for Sight's charitable aims.
  • £200,000 for up to three years.
  • The call for the Fight for Sight / CSO Project Grant is now only open to shortlisted applicants. The closing date for full application submission will be 5pm on Monday 6 February 2017.

Clinical Fellowships

  • Open to medical graduates in ophthalmic specialist training, ophthalmic nursing and allied health professional graduates (including optometrists and orthoptists) wishing to undertake research that will lead to the presentation of a PhD over three years or an MD over two years.
  • Up to £190,000 for three years, or pro rata for an MD.
  • The call for the Clinical Fellowships is now only open to shortlisted applicants. The closing date for full application submission will be 5pm on Monday 6 Feburary 2017.

Early Career Investigator Awards

  • Open to early career researchers with a PhD and at least three years post-doctoral research experience at the time of application.
  • Up to £200,000 for three years.
  • The call for the Early Career Investigator Awards is now only open to shortlisted applicants. The closing date for full application submission will be 5pm on Monday 6 February 2017.

MRC/Fight for Sight Clinical Research Training Fellowship

  • Open to clinically qualified professionals, active in the field of ophthalmology requiring registration for a research degree, normally a PhD.
  • Three years funding.
  • This call is now closed. The closing date for application was 4pm on 12 January 2017. Shortlisting will take place in May 2017 with interviews on 20 and 21 June 2017.

Fulbright Fight for Sight Research Award

  • Open to UK citizens to conduct research for 1 year in the field of ophthalmology at any accredited US institution.
  • £75,000 for 1 year.
  • This call is now closed. The closing date for submissions was Sunday 6 November 2016.
