Step up to the summit!

Rise to the Challenge, One Step at a Time

Step into the spirit of adventure and solidarity with our Step Up to the Summit challenge to support Fight for Sight’s pioneering sight-saving research and impactful community projects.

Whether you choose a week, a month, or your own timeframe, every step counts towards reaching your own summit while helping someone else find theirs wherever you are - at home, at the gym or even in the grocery store!

Just as climbing a mountain demands persistence, vision-impaired people tackle everyday obstacles with courage and resilience.

"Knowing that I’m raising funds to go towards research, that I’m helping to increase awareness, and that I’m giving back to everyone that’s given to me. It definitely gives me a sense of pride and it gives me a big hope for the future that I’m making a difference."

How You Can Get Involved

Here are some creative ideas for your steps challenge:

  • Lunch-break mountaineers: Challenge your colleagues (virtually or in-person) to “climb” Ben Nevis during your lunch hour over a month. Friendly rivalry never looked so meaningful!

  • Family milestone march: Set up a home-based race to Kilimanjaro over a fortnight, with everyone logging their daily steps - from children to grandparents!

  • Club or community teams: Create a steps challenge relay - each person contributes a portion of the total Everest steps.

  • Social media motivation: Share your daily step-count photos or screenshots, tag a friend to continue the climb, and watch your mountain grow - one step at a time.

Choose your own mountain:

Mount Fuji (Yoshida trail)

Mount Kilimanjaro

Mont Blanc

Mount Everest (from base camp)

Ben Nevis

Snowdon

Scafell Pike

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How do I sign up?

Set up your online fundraising page via JustGiving and include details and dates of your challenge, and get started!

  • When does the challenge start and end?

You choose your own dates! Whether it’s a one-week sprint or a month-long climb, every plan works - just keep progressing towards your summit.

  • How can I record my steps?

We recommend using a fitness app.  You can connect Fitbit or Strava to your JustGiving page and keep track of your walks, keep your donors up to date and raise more money!  Fundraising pages that connect fitness apps raise up to 40% more!

  • I don’t walk much, can I still take part?

Absolutely! We welcome everyone. You may convert other activities (e.g. treadmill, hand-cycling) into step equivalents and log via manual entry. Just pick one consistent method of syncing or logging.

  • I want to start my challenge in the school holidays, how can I get my children involved?

Our team has a wide range of tips to make your Step Up challenge your own. Email events@fightforsight.org.uk to get a copy of our children's nature scavenger hun.

  • Can I take part with friends, family, or colleagues?

Yes! You can join solo or form a team. Collaborate on reaching your summit - whether it’s collectively climbing Mount Kilimanjaro or individually scaling separate peaks.

  • What does the money raised go towards?

Every step powers the brilliant minds and bright ideas behind sight-saving research, as well as community programmes supporting blind and visually impaired individuals.

  • Do you have a step-by-step guide on fundraising for Fight For Sight?

We have a handy fundraising pack with all the information you need to fundraise for us - including how to create a memorable event, top tips for success and a printable checklist for you to keep on hand!
