How to leave a gift in your will to Fight for Sight
Thank you for being part of our mission to Save Sight. Change Lives.
Thank you for considering leaving a gift in your will. With your help, we can create a future where no one faces vision loss alone.
Choose the gift that feels right for you
You can leave a share of your estate, a fixed amount of money, or a particular item. There is no minimum gift. Whatever you choose to leave will be hugely appreciated, and will help us in our mission to save sight, change lives.
Different types of gift:
-
A share of your estate
Known as a residuary gift, this is all or a percentage of what remains after debts, taxes, and other gifts have been paid. Because it is a share rather than a fixed amount, it is more likely to keep its value over time.
-
A fixed sum of money
Known as a pecuniary gift, this is a specific amount of money you wish to leave to Fight for Sight.
-
A specific item
This could be property, shares, jewellery, or another named item.
-
In a trust
You can set aside a sum in your will which is left in a trust fund and given to Fight for Sight when the term of the trust fund ends.
A gift for a particular area of work
An unrestricted gift gives Fight for Sight the flexibility to direct funding where it will have the greatest impact at the time. If you want your gift to support a particular eye condition, type of research, or area of social change, please speak to us and we can discuss wording that reflects your wishes and remains practical in the future.
Speak to a solicitor or will writer
We would always recommend getting in touch with a professional will writer or solicitor to make sure your wishes are clearly listed. To leave Fight for Sight a gift please include these details:
Fight for Sight
Registered charity number: 1111438
50 Leman Street, London E1 8HQ
Our free will service
Through our partnership with the National Free Wills Network, supporters can have a simple will written or updated by a participating solicitor for free, with Fight for Sight covering the cost.
To get started, please contact us. We will arrange for the Network to send you further information as well as a list of participating solicitors nearest to you. You can then choose a solicitor and book an appointment. Take the declaration form from your pack to your appointment so the solicitor can claim the cost of your simple will from Fight for Sight.
There is no obligation to leave Fight for Sight a gift but we hope, after providing for your loved ones, you will consider it.
If your wishes or estate are more complex, the solicitor may recommend additional work and charge a fee. They should explain any cost to you before you decide whether to continue.
Tell us about your decision
You do not have to tell us that you have included Fight for Sight in your will and if you choose to let us know, it is not legally binding; you can change your mind at any time. It simply allows us to thank you, understand what matters to you as a supporter, and share relevant updates with you in your preferred format.

Frequently asked questions:
-
What types of gift can I leave?
The main types of gift are residuary, which is all or a share of your remaining assets; pecuniary, which is a fixed sum of money; and specific, which is a named item such as property or shares.
-
Do I need to use a solicitor?
We recommend using a solicitor or qualified will-writing professional. They can make sure your will is legally valid, reflects your wishes, and takes account of your personal and financial circumstances.
-
Can Fight for Sight help me write my will?
We cannot give legal advice, but supporters can use our National Free Wills Network service to have a simple will written or updated by a participating local solicitor.
-
Do I need to tell Fight for Sight?
No. Your will is private and you do not have to tell us. However, if you choose to do so, we can thank you properly and share updates about the work you care about.
-
What information should I give my solicitor?
Please give them our charity name, address, and registered charity number: Fight for Sight, 50 Leman Street, London E1 8HQ. Registered charity number 1111438.
-
Can my gift support a specific eye condition or area of work?
Absolutely! However, please be aware that our work and funding needs will change over time. An unrestricted gift gives us the greatest flexibility, while carefully agreed wording can help us honour a particular interest even in the face of the changing landscape of vision loss research and social advancement.
-
Are gifts to charity subject to Inheritance Tax?
Gifts to UK charities are generally exempt from Inheritance Tax. If 10% or more of the net value of an estate is left to charity, the estate may also qualify for a reduced Inheritance Tax rate (reviewed 2026).
-
What happens if Fight for Sight changes in the future?
Using our registered charity number as well as our name and address helps identify us clearly. Your solicitor can also include wording that allows your executors to apply the gift appropriately if our name or structure changes.
