From Greenwich to Buckingham Palace, the London Marathon brings the world together for an epic run through the city’s best and sometimes most iconic streets. To the rhythm of thousands of feet, runners of all stripes, from individuals, teams, and charities, unite. Joining the incredible movement are husband and wife team, Amy and Matt Tait, who are tackling the 26.2 miles with their friend Cameron Swann (read his story here).
Making Memories
While Amy ran the distance in 2025, it was the pride Matt felt watching her complete the race for Fight for Sight that sparked his own ambition. Facing deteriorating vision, Matt who has choroideremia, is planning to make the most of his sight and has dedicated his 2026 run to fundraising for vision research, hoping his efforts will make a tangible difference for his own future and others living with his condition.
Running with Purpose
Matt knows his fundraising will go towards research that could help him and others living with choroideremia, and that's what's fuelled his gruelling training regime.
The couple has found a unique community within the charity. Through the Tommy Salisbury Choroideremia Fund they have connected with other people living with the genetic condition and this sense of belonging has been a powerful motivator. As Amy notes, it is not just about the physical act of running, but about raising vital funds to potentially save sight for Matt and others. They, along with Team Tommy, have a steadfast sense that breakthroughs are within reach.
“Knowing that the funds that we're raising will impact Matt in some way makes it a lot more meaningful for us and more special.”
A Community Effort
The determined couple emphasises that while they are the ones running, their entire community will be helping to fund to vital vision loss research. From corporate contacts, to Amy and Matt’s daughter selling hand-crafted bracelets at her school, this is a real team effort.
As Matt and Amy head into the race, the Taits are driven by a powerful goal: to make the most of the opportunity to run together, to support a cause that could change their future, and to create memories that will last a lifetime.
More Than the Finish Line
So what are the couple most excited about seeing? Everyone has their own answer, but for many marathoners, it’s Big Ben ‘You know you’re close to the finish line when you see it,’ says Amy. In contrast, Matt laughs, ‘For me, it’s Buckingham Palace. It’s iconic, isn’t it?’
But beyond the landmarks, it’s the moments around them that will matter most. At the finish line, it won’t just be about the time on the clock, it will be about everything they’ve done together to get there and everything they’re helping to make possible.
Because for Amy and Matt, this run is about more than one day, it’s about holding onto what matters now and helping shape what comes next.
