Catherine West, MP helps to relaunch our Muswell Hill shop

Catherine West, Labour MP for Hornsey and Friern Barnet, visited our newly relaunched Fight for Sight shop in Muswell Hill on Friday, 17 January. And she didn't hesitate to roll up her sleeves at the till!

Found at 58 Muswell Hill Broadway, locals may previously have visited the Vision Foundation shop, now rebranded to reflect our merger with Fight for Sight.

On her visit, Ms West MP, who champions sustainable and ethical fashion, helped volunteers to sort preloved donations and prepare them for sale in the newly revamped store. Reflecting on her visit, Ms West MP said: “The Fight for Sight shop is an amazing addition to an already buzzing high street. It’s fantastic to know that 79p from every item sold supports scientific research and projects that are changing the lives of people who are vision impaired.”

How local donations and shoppers can help put change in sight

Catherine’s visit highlights the shop as a lively part of the Muswell Hill community. She was joined on the day by Theo, who attends Finchley Catholic High School and volunteers in the shop as part of his Duke of Edinburgh Award.

Other volunteers Jo and Judy were also on hand to show Catherine the ropes of running a busy charity shop, including how the accessible talking till works.

Fight for Sight’s Director of Impact and External Affairs, Eleanor Southwood MBE, also joined Catherine in the shop : “We are delighted to launch Fight for Sight’s shop as part of the thriving Muswell Hill community. Every item donated to or bought from the shop will help fund the brilliant minds and bright ideas that are putting change in sight for everyone impacted by vision loss.”

Retail Director, Phil Beaven, said: “The Muswell Hill shop features a fresh, bold look offering a curated collection of preloved and vintage clothes, books, and more. Shoppers can try on unique finds in a newly designed changing area.

He added “By changing your wardrobe, you’ll genuinely be changing lives. We would love residents to bring us their preloved clothing, bric-a-brac and homeware in-store".

Local resident wins £100 shopping spree

Ms West also drew the winner of Fight for Sight’s recent competition, awarding a £100 shopping spree to one lucky Muswell Hill local, who entered the draw by donating a bag of clothes to the shop in December.
