Distance:
22 miles (approx.)
Challenge Duration: 3 days
Activity Duration: 2 days

This classic trek by Global Adventure Challenges will see you summit the three highest mountains in England, Scotland and Wales.

You head to Fort William before trekking to the summit of the first and highest peak – Ben Nevis. You then set off for the Lake District to conquer Scafell Pike by night. The final ascent takes place in Snowdonia National Park, to climb the mighty Snowdon!

The target trek time is 15 hours or less, the equivalent available time for the traditional 24 hour Three Peaks Challenge. There is a maximum available trek time of 18 hours. Some of the climb will be in the dark and the terrain varies significantly between the peaks, with rocky and uneven paths. You'll climb around 9,500 feet and walk approximately 22 miles - it's no wonder it is the most highly regarded trekking challenge in the UK!

“What an adventure this challenge was! From start to finish this was an incredible weekend and one I wish I could do all over again. The support team and guides kept us all motivated, safe and smiling.”

It's a tough challenge and your boundaries will be pushed, but with the support and care provided you can conquer it. The team will drive through the night, guide you up each mountain, and give the occasional hug and high five when required.

Please note - to complete all 3 mountains within the scope and limitations of the itinerary, there are strict cut off times. Whilst support and encouragement is offered to all trekkers, anyone failing to meet cut offs will exceed the maximum trek time available and be required to return with a guide to the support team.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • I have a vision impairment, can I take part?

Please get in touch to discuss your needs and the best way that we can support you with any additional requirements - events@fightforsight.org.uk

This is a very individual case, and Global Adventure Challenges would need to know how your visual impairment affects you, your fitness levels and walking speeds (uphill).  Their policy is to encourage and support as many people as possible to take part in their challenges, but they may not be suitable for all. On registration you will be required to complete a medical questionnaire, depending upon your answers they may need more information from you, and may request a GP signature to say you are fit to take part. Global Adventure Challenges reserves the right to refuse a booking if they feel they are unable to accommodate particular needs of an individual.

  • Can I bring my guide dog?

Due to the challenging terrain, Global Adventure Challenges wouldn’t recommend taking a guide dog up a mountain as the dog would be at risk of getting injured or sunburnt.

  • Can anyone take part?

Taking on the Three Peaks Challenge is a serious undertaking and extremely physically and mentally demanding. Global Adventure Challenge's policy is to encourage and support as many people as possible to take part in their challenges. But they may not be suitable for everyone due to restrictions posed by limitation in mobility, physical or cognitive disability, pregnancy or other various medical conditions.

  • How fit do I need to be?

The more you train the more you will enjoy the event, and more likely to succeed all three summits.  A complete training guide will be supplied at registration. You will be aiming to train for consecutive days, walking briskly 6 hours on hilly uneven terrain

  • What support is there on the challenge?
    • Event Manager – oversee the whole event
    • Walking Guides – lead the groups along the route. Some will be with you throughout the three mountains, whilst others will join at each mountain.
    • Support Crew – drive a support vehicle
  • I can't make the dates, but I don't want to do it myself, what else can I do?

There are plenty of alternative options when it comes to joining an organised trek! A few options are Snowdown at Night, the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge or the South Downs Challenge. Please get in touch and we’ll happily send you further details - events@fightforsight.org.uk

  • Can I plan my own Three Peaks Challenge?

Yes! If you can't make the organised trek, why not do it yourself? We have a handy toolkit on how to plan your own Three Peaks Challenge. This option means you don't have to be tied to the tight timings, and you could complete each peak separately or still do it in the 24 hours. Get in touch with us at events@fightforsight.org.uk to get a copy of our DIY trek guide!

  • What is the registration fee and how much do I need to raise?

The registration fee is £95 (non-refundable).
The minimum sponsorship for the organised trek with Global Adventure Challenges is £950 per person. Alternatively, if you decide to take on a DIY challenge, we recommend setting a fundraising target of £500 per person.

  • Will we complete the challenge within 24 hours?

The aim of the challenge is to complete the walking element in under 18 hours. Global Adventure Challenge won’t speed on any of the roads, the completion time is based on 30 hours.  Each mountain is timebound and participants should aim to complete:

    • Ben Nevis in 6 hours (9 miles, 4,304 ft ascent & descent)
    • Scafell Pike in 4.5 hours (5 miles, 2,949 ft ascent & descent)
    • Snowdon in 4.5 hours (7 miles, 2329ft ascent, 2120ft descent

There is a cut off time which is 1 hour after the aim time. If the Mountain Leaders do not feel you will summit in time to get back to the transport, they will turn you round.

  • Where do we meet up for the challenge?

For the organised trek with Global Adventure Challenges - there is a transfer available, with meeting points at Manchester Piccadilly Train Station at around 8.45am; Glasgow Train Station at around 2.00pm; Glasgow airport at around 2.45pm. Registration will be at 6.00pm in Fort William, details of the start venue will be communicated in the lead up to the challenge.

  • How soon do I need to sign up?

Global Adventure Challenges normally have up to 30 places available, however that could change drastically within 24 hours! If you would like to take part it is recommended that you register rather than later to avoid disappointment.

Once registered you will automatically create your own hub where you can complete your personal details and medical questionnaire. You will also find a Welcome Guide with a timeline of when to expect to hear from Global Adventure Challenges, itinerary, challenge information, training guide and kit list.
