AI Policy
At Fight for Sight, we believe that technology, when used thoughtfully and ethically, can help us achieve our vision to Save Sight. Change Lives.
Artificial intelligence (AI) offers remarkable opportunities to accelerate progress – from supporting scientific discovery and improving accessibility for people with vision loss, to helping us work more efficiently and connect more meaningfully with our supporters. As informed optimists, we embrace innovation with both enthusiasm and care. AI will never replace human insight, empathy or expertise – but it can help us to amplify our impact by freeing time for creative thinking, better decisions and deeper collaboration.
Our guiding principles
We use AI in a way that is:
Together – We work with others to explore AI’s potential responsibly. We share learning openly across the charity and with our partners.
Bold – We are confident in adopting technology that helps us deliver change faster, while staying true to our purpose.
Tenacious – We continuously learn, test and improve, using AI as a tool to strengthen our work and understanding.
Informed – We base our use of AI on evidence, expertise and ethical best practice. We fact-check, review, and apply human judgement at every step.
Optimistic – We see AI as a means to build a more inclusive world - one that empowers people who are blind or vision impaired through accessibility, innovation and better design.
Our commitments
Human first – AI assists our work but never replaces people or our responsibility for decisions.
Transparency – We are open about how and when we use AI, particularly in research and communications.
Privacy and security – We safeguard personal and research data and use trusted, compliant AI systems.
Accessibility – We champion the use of AI to make information, experiences and opportunities more accessible for everyone.
Ethical research – We encourage researchers we fund to use AI responsibly, ensuring fairness, accuracy and respect for those whose data or experiences inform their work. We see AI as a opportunity to strengthen our mission – to fund the brilliant minds and bright ideas that put change in sight.
