On Friday 5 December, the evening rush hour at Waterloo Station sounded extra Christmas-y. Under the towering (Stranger Things-themed) Christmas tree, a choir of eight Fight for Sight staff and volunteers came together to share some festive joy with thousands of commuters. Their crowd-pleasing harmonies carried across the concourse, with favourites like Good King Wenceslas and We Wish You a Merry Christmas stopping people in their tracks — and sparking donations and a few spontaneous singalongs too.
Alongside our singers, four brilliant volunteers collected donations, including Joe Pepper and his family. Joe’s connection to Fight for Sight runs deep: Joe lives with choroideremia, an inherited form of progressive blindness.
The generosity of commuters was matched only by the spirit of the team. At one point, even the Waterloo Station managers joined in, to the delight of the choir and everyone listening. It was a perfect reminder of what happens when people come together with a shared belief in a brighter future for people living with sight loss.
To everyone who donated, stopped to listen, sang, or supported from the sidelines — thank you. Events like this are only possible because of our incredible volunteers. We genuinely couldn’t do what we do without you.
