Fight for Sight's funds are allocated to research teams attached to UK academic or medical institutions. The research may be undertaken in the UK or overseas.

Small Grant Awards Schemes

  • Limited to clinical research studies in the field of ophthalmology and vision science. The awards are tenable for one year.
  • Up to £15,000.
  • The call for "Small Grant Awards" is now closed. The closing date for application submissions was 5 pm on Wednesday 23 August 2017.

  • Open to PhD supervisors for three year PhD Studentships to start in October 2018.
  • Up to £100,000.

Primer Fellowship Awards

  • The Fight for Sight / John Lee, Royal College of Ophthalmology Primer Fellowship Award, is open for members of the college only. The Fight for Sight/The Royal Society of Medicine Primer Fellowship Award is open to all applications from clinical and allied health professionals. Both awards are tenable for one year.
  • Up to £60,000
  • The FIRST call for "Primer Fellowship Awards" is now open. The closing date for application submissions is 5 pm on Wednesday 1 November 2017.

Project Grants

  • Open to clinical and non-clinical research scientists wishing to undertake research in all fields of ophthalmic and vision research relevant to Fight for Sight's charitable aims.
  • Up to £170,000 for three years, or pro rata for projects of a shorter duration.
  • The call for the Project Grants is now open. The closing date for abstract submissions is 5 pm on Wednesday 1 November 2017.

  • Open to Scotland based clinical and non-clinical research scientists wishing to undertake research in age-related eye diseases relevant to Fight for Sight's charitable aims.
  • £200,000 for up to three years.

MRC/Fight for Sight Clinical Research Training Fellowship

  • Open to clinically qualified professionals, active in the field of ophthalmology requiring registration for a research degree, normally a PhD.
  • Three years funding.
  • This call is now closed. The closing date for application was 4 pm on 6 September 2017. Shortlisting will take place in February 2018 with interviews on 6 and 7 March 2018.

Fulbright Fight for Sight Research Award

  • Open to UK citizens to conduct research for 1 year in the field of ophthalmology at any accredited US institution.
  • £75,000 for 1 year.
