Proving no mountain is high enough to support eye research

Thomas Wheeler, 25, from Nuneaton, Warwickshire, completed the Yorkshire Three Peak Challenge raising funds to support his older sister, Victoria’s fight for sight.

On 29 August Thomas walked nearly 25 miles and climbed 2142m covering Yorkshire’s three peaks including; Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough in under 10 hours.

Thomas, a consignment en-trustee, raised vital funds and awareness for the main eye research charity, Fight for Sight. His main inspiration is his 31-year-old, sister, who was officially diagnosed with Stargardt's disease, an inherited eye disease which affects the macula, early last year.

Thomas said: "Completing the challenge feels amazing and I’m glad I was able to support Fight for Sight. This challenge is just the beginning as I’m planning more fundraising activities. I didn’t do this just for me, I did it for my sister, my family and everyone else out there who is affected by Stargardt’s. Being able to see is something we all take for granted daily and we forget how precious our sight is.

"There has been huge advances in eye research thanks to charities like Fight for Sight but there are many condition that are still incurable. Thanks to everyone who has donated so far - with your support we can help fund eye research, so Fight for Sight can get a step closer to creating a future everyone can see. A particular thanks to Alex Welding for completing the challenge with me.”

Catherine Woodhead added: "Congratulations to Thomas for completing the challenge in such a short period. We're incredibly grateful to those supporters, like Thomas, that push boundaries to go that extra mile to support Fight for Sight."
