In the first of Fight for Sight's eye research podcasts, leading eye researcher Professor Pete Coffey shares developments around his latest research into age related macular degeneration, the leading cause of blindness in the UK.

Professor Coffey is based at the Institute of Ophthalmology at UCL. Last year his groundbreaking research resulted in improved sight for two patients with serious sight loss from age-related macular degeneration. In this podcast Pete talks about the devastating impact of age related macular degeneration and how stem cell patches offer hope of a new treatment.

He also highlights the serious under-investment in eye research compared with the huge proportion of patients who need hospital treatment for sight related conditions.
