Royals Parks Half Marathon

On Sunday 11 October almost 30 dedicated Fight for Sight supporters joined thousands of runners at this year’s Royal Parks Half Marathon.

A huge thank you to everyone who went the distance to raise vital funds for eye research – we’re pleased to say that all the runners completed the 13.1 mile course in respectable times. Meet some of our runners and find out why they joined the fight against sight loss.

South London fundraisers, Anneka Harry, 29 and partner Sabrina Grant, 29, went the extra mile as Anneka’s four year-old god-daughter, Anais Espiner, was diagnosed with a condition, called nystagmus in 2011. This was the duo’s second time running the event as they completed the race in 2013.  Please donate here.

They were joined by eight employees from Alex Monroe Jewellery who pledged to raise £1,000 and donated a percentage of sales collected from their September trunk show. Help them go the distance please donate here.

Islington fundraiser, Jeremy Hobson, 44, ran his first half marathon since he was 17, and was running to raise funds for his 12 year-old-son, Justin, who was diagnosed with uveitis in 2012. Please do help Jeremy reach his goal and donate here.

Ruth Dunn and Susanne Wakefield, both from Tenterden, ran the marathon side by side. Ruth was especially keen to go the distance, as her dad lost sight in one eye through ocular vein occlusion ten years ago. Three years later, he had another occlusion, which destroyed most of the vision in his other eye and is now registered as partially sighted.

You can still donate to Ruth and Susanne and help them to achieve their goals by donating here.

Robert Wilson 49, from Welwyn Garden, ran his first half marathon in order to raise money for his 13-year-old daughter’s friend and her older sister. They both have Stargardt’s macular dystrophy, a common form of inherited juvenile macular degeneration, which creates progressive vision loss.

Please help Robert and donate here.

Jon Nicholas, 43, from Daventry, is no stranger to a marathon. As well as Royal Parks, Jon also completed Kenilworth and Reigate half marathons – running 39 miles in 35 days. Jon’s 10-year-oldson, Will, was born with a defect in his left eye, which means he has no sight in that eye.

Help Jon continue to his goals and donate here.

Fight for Sight would like to say a huge thank you to our other runners who committed and dedicated their time in taking part in such a rewarding challenge:

Robert Wilson, Yvonne Stewart, Amina Khan, Karen Wade, David Fox, Banita Patel, Sarag Streatfield, Susie Lee, Rosie Kent, Emma Burgin, Tom Graham, Matthew Hearn, Dominis Mansi, Anouksha Patel, Michael McClue, Roger Murphy, Abhishek Nag, Rob Clayton, Iain Dawson, Louise Chu, Ashley Callaghan, Anna Liu, Munish Jain and Eoghan Barrett.
