Running to Help Sister’s Fight for Sight
Going the distance for eye research
William Moore, 28, will go the distance for the UK’s main eye research charity Fight for Sight, at the Virgin London Marathon, on Sunday 24 April.
The Sutton fundraiser will be joining thousands of runners to take on the gruelling 26.2 mile challenge across London city.
William’s main inspiration is his sister, Emily, 25, originally from Sutton but now lives in Winchester. Emily has been living with a genetic cone dystrophy syndrome for the past 20 years. She is also long and short sighted, colour blind and is extremely sensitive to light. Yet despite this Emily is a teacher, at Chandlers Ford Primary School, Eastleigh, and is a keen actress.
William, a consultant for Reed Recruitment, said: “Emily is an inspiration, her determination, bravery and positive outlook on life have led her to do her dream job. I am endlessly proud of Emily and by running the London Marathon I hope to be able to show her how much she inspires me.
“To look at Emily you wouldn’t think there was anything different about her but she can find some day to day tasks challenging. However, she is very independent and doesn’t let anything hold her back.”
William will be running his first London Marathon and has previously completed Worthing Half Marathon. William’s boss James Reed, owner of Reed Recruitment, has set him a challenge to beat James’ marathon time of 3 hours 56 minutes. If successful James has pledged to donate £1,000 to the charity.
Emily said: "I am so proud of my brother for doing this for Fight for Sight. I have watched him train for so long and his dedication is amazing! Will has always been so supportive of me, as have my whole family. He is so brave and will do a fantastic job. I can't wait to cheer him on at the finish line!
