Cars for Cash Initiative Supports Fight for Sight
Scrap your car & raise funds for eye research
Fight for Sight, the UK’s main eye research charity is asking the public to donate old cars to help support vital eye research.
The charity funds research into the early detection, prevention, development of new treatments and ultimately finding a cure for conditions such as; age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, cataract, plus a number of rare eye diseases.
To accelerate its fundraising work, Fight for Sight has joined up with Giveacar, a non-profit social enterprise which collects unwanted and unused cars for charity.
Regardless of their condition, cars are collected free-of-charge nationwide by Giveacar then sold through an online auction or disposed of at an authorised treatment facility.
Profits from the sale are then donated to a charity of the car owner’s choice. Even if the vehicle is scrapped, it still nets the selected good cause around £35.
Catherine Woodhead, Fight for Sight’s Director of Fundraising urges the public to donate their unloved cars to help the fight against sight loss. She said: “Giveacar is a brilliant and simple initiative to help support charities, like Fight for Sight. We don’t receive any government funding – so voluntary donations are gratefully received.”
Many car owners want an easy and completely free way to get rid of their old vehicle. Giveacar will help them to do this in a legal and environmentally friendly way.
The scheme is intended to discourage those irresponsible owners who may consider abandoning their car, spoiling the appearance of the local environment and burdening local taxpayers with the cost of removing and disposing of it.
