Members of the public across the UK will be dining in the dark and donating this October as the UK’s main eye research charity, Fight for Sight, launches its fundraising event Feast your Eyes for the second year running.

Feast your Eyes got underway on Saturday 01 October and runs until Monday 31 October and will see people from local communities come together to host a dinner party with a difference  that will challenge their senses and help fund pioneering eye research. Groups of friends and colleagues alike are set to join in and host events such as; a blindfolded breakfast, lights-out lunch, pitch black picnic, challenging cheese and wine or dinner in the dark.

A number of well-known chefs have offered their support to the event and have donated tasty recipes to provide inspiration for a fun foodie fundraiser. British Indian food writer and TV chef Anjum Anand has provided recipes for lamb do piazza and pistachio cakes with orange syrup. Whilst MasterChef finalists Juanita Hennessey and Tony Rodd and MasterChef: The Professionals winner Steven Edwards and finalist Danilo Cortellino have also contributed recipes which can be found on the Fight for Sight website.

Organisers Fight for Sight say there is still plenty of time to sign up and host a Feast your Eyes blindfolded food event and help fund research into conditions such as; age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, cataracts, corneal disease, and rare eye conditions.

Sharon Petrie, Interim Director of Fundraising at Fight for Sight, said: “Feast your Eyes is officially underway and people are hosting fun blindfolded foodie events across the UK.It’s not too late to get involved as this year we’ve extended the initiative to the whole of October. It’s really easy to sign-up, just visit the Fight for Sight website to register and receive a fundraising pack including free blindfolds.

“Feast your Eyes offers a chance to play a part in raising vital funds for pioneering eye research. Every day 100 people in the UK start to lose their sight and nearly two million people are living with sight loss. Fight for Sight funds pioneering research into a number of different eye conditions to help make sight loss a thing of the past.”
